Day 39 – A Quiet Walking Day

All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking. – Friedrich Nietzsche

We prepared for our day of walking while the kids got ready for school.  Before leaving, they wanted to show off their favorite toys.

Mason, Kaitlyn, and Julie, showing off their favorite toys.

Also, we wanted to get a picture of the creation Mason and John-Michael worked on the previous evening.

Mason’s Lego creation.

After being treated to blueberry pancakes, we walked through a few small towns under cloudy skies.  It was a quiet and peaceful day of walking.  Low traffic, nice weather, and a slight breeze accompanied us.

Happy 4. We didn’t see Happy 1 through 3.

Much like Jerry Lewis in France, and David Hasselhoff in Germany, librarians love this guy.

We met a construction worker who was convinced humans could only walk 7 miles in a day. We assured him, based on experience, that was not the case.

Tara saw a sign for $1 ice-cream cone scoops, so we took a break and briefly chatted with a few locals.  They let us know the scoop about some campgrounds a few miles further.  While checking in at the campground, Shirley and her husband kindly gave us a gallon of water.  Our campsite neighbor, Sam, let us charge our phones at his RV.

Throughout the day, everyone we spoke with warned us that rain was coming.  Fortunately, it held off until just after we finished dinner and settled into the tent.
