Don’t panic – Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Over the last few days we have been completely freaking out. We’ve been nervous, unable to get to sleep at night, and keep thinking of every reason why trying to walk across the country is a terrible idea. We’ve also been excited, ready to start walking right now, and keep thinking of every reason why trying to walk across the country is a great idea. Talk about ambivalence.
Back when we first started planning this nearly two years ago, we created a checklist of things we needed to consider, prepare, and accomplish before we could make this dream a reality. The final “step” we set for ourselves read “Don’t panic.” Over the last few days that last step has been ignored. Fortunately, today we were reminded by Google (via the Google Doodle) of this important life lesson. No matter what life, the world, or even the universe throws at you, don’t panic.
We should be packing-up and driving out to the east coast on Wednesday. Walking should start on Friday or Saturday. In the meantime, we’ll try to stay calm.
Here are a few pictures from last week, taken before the overwhelming excitement and terror set in. Thanks to Lyndi (lyndibphotography.com) for the photos.
